Overview

For more than a century, Lancaster County’s industrial sector was dominated by textiles. The local economy is now becoming much more diversified, and Lancaster County’s large pool of available, skilled labor is a big advantage for companies looking to relocate or expand. Currently, more than 10,000 county residents commute to jobs out of the county. This segment of our labor force would welcome the opportunity to work closer to home each day.

Workers are streaming to Lancaster County and the Charlotte metro area—the population increased by 24% from 2000 to 2007 and stands at more than 1.6 million. The region’s population is educated at levels that beat the national average—for those 25 and over, 59% have had some education beyond high school; 30% have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher.
